The issuesofnortheastindia.org is managed by North East Initiative (NEI), located in FHSS Complex, North Guwahati, Assam. The North East States specially Assam, is facing many environmental challenges, specially due to the
(a) Peaking Hydro Electric Project (HEP) of Subansiri Lower Dam under construction and the 135 plus other Peaking HEPs as proposed for construction in Arunachal Pradesh. These dams will have very severe ecological, environmental and humanitarian catastrophies in the pristine valleys of Arunachal and cumulatively in the Brahmaputra, Assam. These Peaking HEPs generate unsustainable power at the cost of ecology, environment and people.
The issue of alternative true Run of the River (RoR) Hydro Electric Projects in place of the Peaking HEPs is of paramount importance for the region and also for the country in the context of generation of adequate sustainable power. The webpage deals with these issues.
(b) The issues of survival of the Asiatic Elephants in the wild in the region and the man elephant conflict in Assam and elsewhere, is now a very serious socioeconomic - environmental issue.
(c) The issue of National Register of Citizens(NRC), for Assam is a burning topic in Assam, - in fact, all over India.
