A case has been filed in the Hon'ble National Green Tribunal on 26/04/2018 at New Delhi by,
Shri Pradip Kumar Bhuyan IITAN and Senior Citizen
Dr. Kashmira Kakati, Wildlife Biologist and environmental activist
Shri Joydeep Bhuyan, Wildlife Photographer and conservationist,
and they have raised significant and grave issues regarding safety of the elephants, their habitats and issues related to man elephant conflicts.Elephant are being killed in the railway tracks, through electrocution from sagging electrical lines and due to man elephant conflicts, loss and fragmentation of elephant/wildlife habitats and lack of notification of Elephant Reserves, Elephant corridors as Eco - sensitive zones etc..
The petitioners have sought for remedies before the Hon'ble NGT from these grave issues.
The petitioners have also prayed for rejuvination of the Wildlife Sanctuaries, Reserve Forest, PAs etc as a permanent / long-term solution.
The petitioners have also sought for adequate compensation (50 lakhs to 1 crores) for death of any elephant due to negligence of the railways, power companies to be deposited in a special account for conservation of elephants.
